Mr. Shivakumar R is a Founder and Managing Attorney of “Shiv & Attorneys” and is an
Intellectual Property Attorney with more than 18 years of experience in the industry. He
holds a Master’s degree in Biotechnology and a law degree from Bangalore University. He is
also a qualified patent agent and a member of Karnataka State Bar council. Having worked
with a renowned IP firm as a Partner, serving a company as Head for IP & Scientific Affairs
and leading the team on IP & Technology Transfer at an incubation centre, he has handled
varied portfolios and represented diverse clientele across the globe. He has played an integral
part in building IP strategies for Individuals, Start-ups, Institutes/Universities, MSMEs and
large sized companies. He has also played a vital role in successfully transferring several
technologies including negotiation with relevant parties and striking a deal in terms of
drawing term sheets and license agreements. In addition, he has been instrumental in
nurturing/building the team for technology transfer. Apart from these, he been a regular
speaker at various forums and has several publications to his credit.
On work front, Mr. Shivakumar R has handled drafting and prosecution of patents in the area
of Life Sciences including biotechnology, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry,
pharmaceuticals, bio-pharmaceuticals, medical diagnostics, therapeutics and nanotechnology.
He also provides opinion on the validity and enforcement of patents, freedom to operate,
infringement analysis and assisted clients with NBA matters, due diligence, apart from
managing patent portfolios. As regards technology transfer, he has handled several tech
transfer deals with his involvement in aspects such as preparation of tech briefs, conducting
tech showcases, connection with the industry, negotiating with interested parties on term
sheets and execution of license agreements.
